The Society of Northumbrian Scribes seeks to promote calligraphy, to help its members to enjoy it and to develop their own skills.

To support this, our monthly newsletter brings brief reports of meetings, informs us about forthcoming meetings, about the wider world of calligraphy and about members interests.

We plan to hold at least one exhibition each year. This is usually held at Bede’s World and celebrates our members’ talents and imagination. We hope that it brings our calligraphy to the attention of a wider public.

For a number of years members have produced a popular calligraphic calendar. In addition, some of our activities yield other publications such as the ‘Building Bridges’ book and ‘A Box of Comforts’.

Another occasional activity is to visit places, such as Durham Cathedral Library, where manuscripts can be seen.
